Koi or more specifically nishikigoi are ornamental domesticated varieties of the common carp Cyprinus carpio. They are believed to have originated from Eastern Asia, Aral, Black and Caspian Seas. The original Japanese word koi simply means "carp," including both the dull gray fish and the brightly colored varieties. Foam Conversion supply a range of reticulated filter media in both parts and sheet form for water filtration specifically manufactured to be 'koi-friendly' for the demanding requirements of the ornamental fish market.
With over 40 years cumulative experience in manufacturing non-toxic and specialist filter mediums for aquatic applications, Foam Conversion can provide a comprehensive 'turnkey' service for both OEM (such as pump and tank manufacturers), and wholesale and retail customers. We can assist and consult on every stage of filter design and development, from initial foam product design, through to quality production and finishing including packaging, bagging, labeling, and bar-coding (for EPOS requirements), with prompt and reliable delivery.
Foam Conversion source and supply many types of non-toxic, standard and specialist fish filter reticulated media. The majority of reticulated sponge and foam media used for aquatic and aquarium filters are foams with varying PPI (pores per inch) filter medium density. Foams used for aquatic applications must be non-toxic, waterproof, fairly chemically stable, and produced and finished in a clean, controlled manufacturing environment to prevent foreign debris adhering to the finished filter parts. In addition to stringent manufacturing conditions, Foam Conversion also recommends that all pond and aquarium filter parts are thoroughly washed before installation.
We supply aquatic and fish-filter foams with the following physical characteristics:
Foam-based filters designed for filtering aquatic water (often via pond or tank pumps, or filter boxes) are designed to have both a mechanical and a biological water or 'bio-filter' filtering function. That is, the porous foam or sponge medium mechanically filters out debris and fish detritus as water flows through the interstitial cavities in the foam matrix. The water flowing through the filter medium, also brings oxygen promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria. These bacteria metabolize the ammonia (fish wastes) and nitrite in the water, and effectively add a biological function to the filtering process that improves water quality.
